If you’re in a career which requires business networking or you simply want to meet new people, one factor which might hinder your success in this arena is a problem with shyness.

Luckily, being shy doesn’t mean you’re stuck with an incurable disease. Instead, there are ways to conquer your inhibitions and learn to come out of your socially-shy shell. We’ve discovered four key ways to help with the battle.

1. Stop thinking about yourself and focus on other people
If you start feeling self-conscious about yourself or analyzing how you appear when you meet a new person, try and focus your attention on your new associates instead. Who are they and what are they saying to you? What are the things you like about them? What would you like to know more about them? By switching your attention to other people, you’ll help yourself forget your shyness and make yourself a more attentive person to talk to at the same time.

2. Get your mind working positively
Try these techniques to help reprogram the way you feel about yourself. Firstly visualize – imagine yourself in networking scenarios where you act calm, confident and naturally yourself. Secondly, destroy negative words or statements in your head, e.g., ‘I have nothing useful to say’. Instead, repeat positive words and statements to yourself, e.g, ‘I have valuable things to contribute’. By reinforcing positive thoughts and images about yourself in your mind, you’ll help override the negative ones.

3. Accept Rejection
Not everyone you meet will instantly like you – the same way that you may not like every person you meet. Learn to accept this fact of life and not to take it personally if someone doesn’t show the same interest in you. Instead, use the opportunity to help you become more confident because you are able to move on.

4. Learn to like yourself
If you can sit and think about the things you like the most about yourself, you’re sure to discover a dozen or so reasons why other people should like you too. Focus on your strengths and you’ll soon forget your weaknesses. Not a good talker? Well maybe you’re a more sensitive listener. Not good at making jokes? Perhaps you’re great at sharing anecdotes. Aim to be yourself – the self that you like – and you’ll have nothing to be shy about.

Which ever way you look at it, these are some pretty impressive numbers and I’m sure that anyone in their right mind would want a part in the future of this amazing industry right?

I guess the reason for your visit here is that you are either already in it and checking me out or you are considering it and still uncertain as to which company to ‘invest your future and possibly your families future in’? There’s a lot riding on your decision and you want to ensure that the company you choose will have staying power. So, what questions can you ask to help you to decide whether this is the company for you?

• How long has the company been trading? (the majority of MLM companies less than 5 years old fail)
• Which market sector are they in and is it a declining marketplace or forecasted for massive growth?
• Have they shown consistent growth and profitability since they started trading?
• What’s their 5/10 year plan?
• Are they a bricks and mortar based company, do they own assets?
• Are they Vertically Integrated? (do they own and control the whole process)
• How do they provide training, is it 3rd hand or trained at source?
• Can they demonstrate how your residual income may be safe guarded if the company faced financial difficulties?
• Do they have unique products or are they a ‘ME TOO’ company (entering an already crowded marketplace with similar but inferior products to their competition)?
• What professional associations and awards do the company have, for example; are they approved by the DSA(Direct Selling Association), do they have governmental standard recognitions, for example BS9001 or Investor In People (UK)?

Finally and most importantly, how ethical, honest and fair is the marketing plan, how will you earn your money and are the figures quoted actually being achieved by people in the business today?

These are just a few of the questions we had and you may well have other questions that I have omitted and by all means please send them to me, I would be delighted to include them. I just hope that I may have prompted you to ask a question/s that will provide you with the reassurances you have to have. After all it’s your belief in what you do that drives your business forward, there is no room for doubt!

But back to my original question in the headline. When you have found the company that can provide you with all your answers satisfactorily, there’s just one more that you need to ask:

“HAVE I MISSED THE BOAT”?

What you really want to hear back is:  

“OUR BOAT HASN’T EVEN BEEN BUILT YET”

More and more people are now turning to this concept as a way to secure their future and even when you stop for good your residual income will continue to be paid to the ones you love and the ones they love.

Certainly the modern farming practises of picking unripe fruits and then artificially ripening them, leaving them in cold storage for weeks on end compounded by the poor quality of soil water and air have taken its toll on the end product which in turn affects our wellbeing. Of course you can always grow your own or visit your local organic farmer who leaves his produce to ripen naturally, but both these routes have challenges and are unviable in most cases.

I started my network marketing business in September 2007 and at that time two of my children were at school and two were at home with me full time.
